Moving a Work Package

Moving a work package is similar to copying a work package, except that Cobra deletes that work package from its original location after moving it.

You can move an existing work package from one location to another:
  • From within the same control account
  • From one control account to another control account
  • From one project to another project

You can move a work package by using the Move Work Package dialog box or through the Cobra Web Service using the Move Work Package method.

Guidelines

Cobra follows certain guidelines when moving a work package from one location to another.

  • You cannot move a work package to a control account with Completed status.
  • You cannot move a work package to a control account if the same work package name already exists.
  • You cannot move a work package to a target project whose fiscal calendar does not encompass the work package baseline and/or pending dates from the source project.
  • You cannot move a work package that has resource assignments against classes that do not exist in the target project.
  • You cannot move a work package that has resource assignments against resources that do not exist in the resource file of the target project.
  • You can move a work package with code values even if the work package codes do not exist on the target project.
  • You can move a work package with resource assignment codes even if the resource assignment codes do not exist on the target project.
  • User field values (character, numeric, and date) are moved with the work package.
  • Project and control account totals are recalculated on both the source and target projects when the move process completes.
